Over the weekend, the Trump administration announced new actions targeting countries accused of supporting drug trafficking against the United States. President Trump specifically cited Colombia and its President, Gustavo Petro, alleging that the country is enabling the drug trade.
The administration further stated that all U.S. aid to Colombia will be suspended until significant progress is made in curbing the flow of narcotics into the U.S.
In addition, reports indicate that new, major tariffs on Colombian goods are expected to be formally announced later today. These measures could have significant implications for U.S. importers and the floral industry, as Colombia remains one of the largest exporters of cut flowers to the United States.
AFIA will continue to monitor this developing situation closely. As soon as additional details become available, we will share timely updates with our members and partners.
